Episode 28 "What Could Go Wrong?"

May 15, 2012

The telegram Purdy received from her mother caused her much confusion and consternation, and she sought advice from Ava.

Sparky -  in the family way and impatient to return to Boissevain - bickered with her husband Clarence who reluctantly admitted they had no funds on which to live. Doc and Tallulah got hammered, joined by Ava.

Alexie returned, disappointed after fruitlessly searching for Delores in Medicine Hat. Orville asked him to be Best Man at his upcoming nuptials. Purdy shared the telegram with Orville, who was alarmed at the prospect of returning to Purdy’s family and continuing their ruse. He guiltily confessed the lie to Purdy, but Francois offered him reassurance.

Delores ransacked Hans’ empty caravan and filched the Carnie’s entire kitty; soon after, Alexie was astounded to lay eyes on her and impetuously proposed; under the watchful gaze of Arlo she put him off, seemingly wracked with guilt. Later she met up with Arlo, and it became apparent they had pulled off a long vengeful con.

Clarence was greatly relieved to find his life savings intact in the jacket Alexie had found on a moose. Ava presented Purdy with a wedding gown –...

Episode 27

May 8, 2012

Delores aggressively planted a smacker on an angry Hans.  Clarence flirted with Tallulah, who was smitten at the prospect of finally finding love. Purdy shared her good news with Ava, who was delighted that their hare-brain scheme had worked: Papa Durvert had given permission for Purdy to marry “Larry”. Ava tried her best to explain the facts of life to Purdy, offering scanties for her Hope Chest.

Meanwhile, Doc explained the facts of life from a man’s perspective to Orville, who was unsure about founding a marriage based on a lie. The Carnies proceeded to put on a spectacular show for the townies of Lethbridge. Doc acted as Barker, the Amazing Mentalist worked the crowd; overcoming her nerves, Tallulah debuted her new act as a Yodelling Lady Pugilist, and pummeled Orville - who willingly played the shill for her and several of the other acts, including Purdy as the Celestial Hypnotis; Ava danced alluringly with her snake Eve; Francois The Human Statue presented his two best poses, then debuted his new act giving advice on L’Amour to the love sick. A participant from the audience  revealed herself to be Mrs. McLeary, formerly known as Sparky McGee – the...

Episode 26

May 1, 2012

A hung-over Orville told Clarence he vaguely remembered hanging the borrowed jacket on a moose during his drunken bender.  Clarence was apoplexed to learn his life savings, left in the pocket, were indeed missing.

An exuberant Tallulah played with her new unarmed gun – angering Hans, and scaring both Francois, Ava and her snake Eve – who suffered a tiny serpentine fit but was heroically resuscitated by the Frenchman. Purdy fooled neither Ava nor Tallulah in disguise as Sergei, but both women humoured her antics. While Orville was taught some stooge moves by Clarence, as per the plan - Phinneas ‘recognized’ Orville as the missing stooge Larry and promptly told Major Durvert - who did a 360 and granted a confused Purdy permission to marry Larry/Orville. The Major also made an excruciatingly painful attempt at fatherly kindness, and promised his daughter a lavish wedding.   Orville also was confused, but soon figured out he had the upper hand with a toadying Major Durvert, and played along at being a famous motion picture star ‘hiding out’ amidst the carnies.   Doc and Tallulah debated the merits of modern physicians versus medicine men.  Phinneas told Ava he was...
